Bridging-the-Future

The HEALinc BTF Program is uniquely structured to provide a platform for the next generation of innovative problem-solvers. Every year, our coordinators select a handful of deserving students in the Bahamas and Caribbean to participate in our science and technology-focused program in order to better prepare them for university-level research and eventual careers in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Art and Design, and Mathematics) industries.

During our last 2023 HEALinc Summit (with collaboration from Gwendolyn Johnson, the Officer at the Ministry of Education), our program director Crachad Laing (for the 2019 and 2023 Summit) recruited top STEAM Bahamian and international students. Students were required to submit a short registration form and participate in a 10-minute interview. Selected students participated in weekly Tuesday meetings consisting of lecture-style sessions, tutorials, and independent research. Students were allocated time for group conversation, exposure opportunities from STEAM professionals, and weekly research-based collaborative “think tank” discussions on relevant science, technology, and global issues.

While the program began with top-tier STEAM high school students in 2018 and 2019, it has since expanded to include undergraduate scientists, nursing and medical students at our most recent HEALinc Summit in 2023. This will continue as we move forward with preparations for the upcoming 2024 HEALinc Summit.
