Jeff Gapusan

Finance and FinTech Executive, Deltec

Jeff Gapusan is a seasoned operating executive and capital markets expert with experience leading people and teams in a variety of industries and environments. Whether during his time as a Mission Commander onboard US Navy EP-3E aircraft, selling MBS/ABS on the fixed income trading floor, or selling financial technology and creating durable partnerships in the FinTech startup world, Jeff brought the attention to detail, subject matter expertise, and professionalism required to successfully execute in dynamic operating environments.

Jeff started his finance career working in the Financial Institutions Group at Citigroup’s Salomon Smith Barney. From the fixed income floor, Jeff worked with his clients to structure financing agreements (repurchase and reverse repurchase agreements) that would help his clients optimize NIM. Early success in this group led to enhanced coverage responsibilities including foreign banks (first with the “Yankee” banks and subsequently their foreign headquarters), long-only asset managers, and levered accounts. Jeff’s coverage responsibilities eventually included structured credit, where he secured underwriting mandates, including a $2 billion deal with the largest private company in the world—the company’s first of its kind. In aggregate, Jeff helped managers raise $500 million in equity for funding vehicles and traded products generating >$20million in EV annually.

In 2008, Jeff joined Cantor Fitzgerald’s fledgling Debt Capital Markets business to manage relationships with institutional mortgage and structured credit investors. Given his expansive network of European investors and knowledge of the market, he was tapped to build the European ABS sales & trading effort for Cantor in London. Hiring five key personnel, the sales & trading desk outperformed first year expectations. During his time at Cantor, Jeff also worked to build Cantor’s alternative Asset Management business, which included the onboarding of the subsequently acquired San Francisco-based FinTan partners.

In 2014, Jeff applied his Capital Markets knowledge when he pivoted to the FinTech space. He co-founded and raised capital for a working capital finance company, securing debt facilities with alternative asset managers including corporate, commercial finance arms like Hitachi Capital Corporation, and early-stage private equity from institutional investors. He went on to lead Georgia Tech’s FinTech Acceleration Program and subsequently went back to operating roles with venture and growth equity-backed FinTech and Blockchain firms. During his time working in FinTech, Jeff has helped companies raise over $75 million in equity financing.

Throughout his career, Jeff has maintained a network of institutional investors ranging from capital allocators, early-stage venture capital, corporate venture, banks, asset managers, and hedge funds. Understanding the investor mindset and ultimate investment goals has allowed him to flourish in multiple product and capital environments. In addition to mentoring finance and FinTech companies around the world, Jeff combines his operating experience and market views as a Forbes Contributor for FinTech and Digital Assets, where he writes about the intersection of Finance, FinTech, and Blockchain and their real-world impact. Jeff resides in the United States and is married to the former Roseann Sayoc with whom he’s raised three wonderful kids: Ashley, Maddie and Zach.
