Pranela Rameshwar, PhD

Dr. Pranela Rameshwar is a professor at the Department of Medicine, Hematology and Oncology Division, at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in New Jersey, USA. She received her B.S. degree in medical microbiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Ph.D. in biology from Rutgers University. Dr. Rameshwar continued her training as a postdoctoral fellow in hematopoiesis at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
Dr. Rameshwar’s research emphasizes translation science and is mostly focused on stem cell, cancer (breast and brain) and immuno/hematopoietic aging. Dr. Rameshwar’s lab is involved in developing methods to use adult stem cells as cellular vehicles for drug delivery, including treatment of glioblastoma. Her studies on breast cancer dormancy in bone marrow focus on cancer stem cells and microvesicles. Other research studies include neural regulation of hematopoiesis and the immunology of adult human mesenchymal stem cells.
Dr. Rameshwar has authored nearly 200 publications, which include original articles, reviews, editorials and book chapters. She has also edited books. Dr. Rameshwar’s contribution to teaching includes her initiation of a certificate program in stem cell biology and four graduate level courses in stem cell biology. Dr. Rameshwar is a university master educator. She has mentored several doctoral students, including those in the physician scientist track and junior faculty. Dr. Rameshwar’s academic endeavors include nationally and internationally activities, such as invited seminars, journal activities and grant reviews.
